Former Soldier Arrested in Kabul After Deportation from Iran

Local sources in Kabul report that Taliban forces have arrested a former soldier named Abdul Hamid Jonbesh in the Qowaye Markaz area of the city. The arrest took place on Saturday, September 27. Relatives confirmed that Jonbesh had recently returned to Afghanistan after being deported from Iran.

According to his family, Abdul Hamid Jonbesh was a resident of Abdullah Khil village in Paryan district of Panjshir province. Following the collapse of the former government, he fled to Iran to save his life. Recently, after being deported by Iranian authorities, he re-entered Afghanistan.

However, the Taliban immediately detained him upon his arrival in Kabul and transferred him to an unknown location. His family says they have no information about his fate or condition, and their attempts to obtain details have been unsuccessful.

The arbitrary detention of former soldiers by the Taliban has once again raised concerns about human rights violations and the lack of safety for Afghan returnees. This comes despite repeated Taliban promises of a general amnesty, as reports of arrests, torture, and enforced disappearances of former government forces continue to rise.
