Taliban, Kazakhstan Discuss Expanded Health Cooperation Amid Earthquake Crisis

Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, the Taliban’s Minister of Public Health, met with Gizzat Akbasov, Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Afghanistan, to discuss strengthening healthcare cooperation between the two sides. The meeting took place as eastern provinces of Afghanistan continue to suffer from the devastating impacts of recent earthquakes.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, talks focused on providing medical services for earthquake victims, equipping health facilities, building staff capacity, and sharing expertise in specialized fields such as cardiology, oncology, radiology, and neurosurgery.

Jalali emphasized the urgent need to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare for earthquake-affected communities, adding that Kazakhstan’s technical and educational support could play a key role.

The Kazakh ambassador described Afghanistan as a friend and partner, pledging support for training Afghan health workers and addressing urgent medical needs. He also announced that a 20-member medical team will soon travel to Afghanistan to carry out free surgeries for earthquake victims.

Despite such promises, Afghanistan’s healthcare system under Taliban control continues to face deep challenges, with limited transparency in governance and unequal access to medical services raising concerns about the sector’s future.
