Verbal Clash Erupts at US House Financial Services Committee Over Trump Administration Policies

A verbal confrontation broke out during a US House Financial Services Committee meeting between several Democratic representatives and the US Treasury Secretary. The dispute centered on the economic and immigration policies of President Donald Trump’s administration.
Maxine Waters, Democratic Representative from California, criticized the president’s economic decisions, arguing that the imposed tariffs have increased inflationary pressures and that immigration policies have weakened the government’s ability to cover housing costs. She questioned whether there was any sensible person in the Trump administration who could prevent what she called a “war against American consumers.”
The US Treasury Secretary responded by calling her remarks a misinterpretation of the concept of inflation. However, Waters interrupted him and repeated her question, further escalating tensions in the session.
After the Treasury Secretary continued speaking, Waters requested the committee chair to stop him, declaring that her time had been wasted. Subsequently, Gregory Meeks, Democratic Representative from New York, also sternly urged the Treasury Secretary to cease defending and following President Trump.
Meeks additionally referred to what he called the “improper influence” stemming from cryptocurrency projects linked to Trump’s family, alleging that companies associated with the president’s family had engaged with foreign investors during his tenure overseeing US foreign policy—a claim that drew fresh criticism during the meeting.
