Over 95,000 Tons of Goods Transported via Railways in One Week

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works announced that a total of 95,369 tons of commercial goods were imported, exported, or transited through the country’s railway routes over the past week.

The shipments were handled through the Hairatan, Aqina, Torghundi, and Khaf–Herat railway ports. According to the ministry, the transported goods included petroleum products, non-petroleum items, and various other commercial commodities.

In addition to imports, 737 tons of goods—including rice—were either exported or transited through Afghanistan.

The ministry claims that the increase in railway transport not only boosts national revenue but also contributes to job creation, economic growth, and progress toward self-sufficiency.

This update comes as railway shipments totaled 91,373 tons two weeks earlier. The Taliban administration, which controls government institutions including the Ministry of Public Works, has sought to use such figures to bolster its legitimacy at home and abroad.

However, despite official promises to facilitate trade for merchants, widespread corruption, lack of transparency, and ongoing economic restrictions under Taliban rule remain major obstacles to the real growth of Afghanistan’s transport and trade sectors.
