German Officials to Visit Kabul for Talks on Deporting Afghan Migrants

Germany’s Interior Ministry has announced that a high-level delegation will travel to Kabul in October to discuss the return of certain Afghan migrants with the Taliban authorities.

German media reported on Saturday, September 27, that the main purpose of the trip is to assess the possibility of regularly deporting criminals and individuals considered a threat to German society. Officials noted that these deportations are planned to take place via regular commercial flights rather than special or chartered flights.

According to German sources, the initiative is being carried out as a relatively discreet operation due to the sensitive nature of the issue and the political and security situation in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated, “The deportation of criminal refugees must be carried out systematically, which is why direct talks with the Taliban in Kabul are deemed necessary to ensure continuous returns.”

It is worth noting that two previous deportation flights from Germany to Kabul were arranged with Qatar’s mediation. In the latest case, 81 Afghan migrants were returned in July 2025.
