Following the deadly earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced an urgent need for $4 million to strengthen healthcare response in the affected areas.
The organization stated that hospitals in the impacted provinces are under severe pressure, thousands of families have been displaced, and the health conditions of many residents are at risk.
WHO’s Afghanistan office added that their medical teams are on the ground, but without additional funding, their capacity to save lives will be limited.
Although international relief agencies are striving to manage the situation, the absence of an effective and responsive system under the Taliban administration has made emergency healthcare delivery highly challenging.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, the country’s healthcare system has struggled with shortages of resources, professional staff, and basic equipment, leaving it ill-prepared to respond to natural disasters.
