With this latest contribution, total EU health assistance to the country since May this year has reached €7 million.

According to WHO, the additional funding is designated to enhance emergency health response capabilities across Afghanistan, particularly focusing on life-saving healthcare services in remote areas and for returnees who lack access to basic medical care.

While such aid may partially address the population’s immediate needs, serious concerns remain about the long-term sustainability of Afghanistan’s health system under Taliban rule. The diminished role of independent institutions, constraints on female healthcare workers, and the country’s fragile healthcare infrastructure have all hindered the effectiveness of such international support.

WHO and its international partners are expanding humanitarian services at a time when the Taliban administration not only lacks the capacity to manage the national health system but has also imposed restrictions that have left many Afghan families without access to essential medical services.

The EU donates an extra €1 million in medical aid to Afghanistan, raising total contributions this year to €7 million, amid healthcare challenges under Taliban rule.

[17,6

post-977","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-international
["GET
