Several opposition parties in Pakistan have condemned Islamabad\u2019s decision to officially join the \u201cPeace Committee\u201d led by Donald Trump, the President of the United States, and have called for the move to be halted.<\/p>\n
These parties emphasize that any Pakistani participation in such a committee should be postponed until a comprehensive and transparent consultative process takes place domestically, stressing that decision-making at this level without political consensus is unacceptable.<\/p>\n
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, criticized the structure of the committee, stating that Trump created the framework according to his own interests, appoints its members, and personally chairs it. He warned that tying hopes for peace, economic stability, and a better future for Palestinians to such a committee would, in his view, only lead to self-deception.<\/p>\n
He further described Islamabad\u2019s joining of the committee as a sign of Pakistan\u2019s foreign policy being influenced by external pressures and added that the country has, in the past, failed to formulate an independent foreign policy based on national interests.<\/p>\n
