According to the spokesperson, the countries agreed that any re-deployment of foreign troops would pose a threat to regional peace and stability.

A joint statement issued after the meeting described the move as a troubling attempt by nations that played a role in Afghanistan’s current crisis. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the declaration also reflects regional countries’ respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and independence, as well as their shared determination to cooperate for the country’s reconstruction and stability.

This joint opposition comes after U.S. President Donald Trump recently suggested efforts were underway to retake Bagram Air Base.
