This temporary waiver was approved during a meeting of the Security Council’s Resolution 1988 Sanctions Committee.

Abdul Haq Wasiq is among the senior security officials of the Taliban who are subject to UN travel and financial sanctions. His departure from Afghanistan is contingent upon receiving such exemptions. This process highlights the requirement of UN approval for key Taliban officials to travel abroad.

Previously, the UN Security Council had also issued temporary exemptions for other Taliban officials such as Sirajuddin Haqqani, acting Minister of Interior Affairs, and Abdul Kabir, the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, allowing them to attend Hajj ceremonies or participate in diplomatic and medical visits.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi has emerged as a significant center for unofficial diplomatic interactions and regional consultations between the Taliban administration, Western countries, and regional actors. The acceptance of the Taliban ambassador’s credentials in the UAE and the holding of meetings between Taliban security officials in Abu Dhabi demonstrate the crucial role the UAE plays in the political and security dynamics related to Afghanistan.

UN sanctions committee allows Taliban intelligence chief Abdul Haq Wasiq to travel to the UAE for medical treatment from October 20 to November 3.

[17,4

post-25282","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics
["GET
