Several Afghan refugees living near Turkey’s border regions claim that Turkish border police officers severely beat them while naked after arrest. Released images show extensive bruising and injuries on the migrants’ bodies.

The sender of these images, who identified themselves as residing in Maku and Chaldoran, asserted that the incident occurred on October 30. They also alleged that some migrants were subjected to burns with boiling water. The sender called on relevant authorities to urgently investigate the conditions of these refugees.

This incident echoes similar allegations made about a week ago by Afghan migrants in Chaldoran. At that time, refugees reported that over 40 injured individuals were released after prolonged detention with inadequate food and forced labor along the border wall.

In the submitted videos, groups of young men with wounds and bleeding are seen beneath a tent. Previously, Turkish police have repeatedly been accused of mistreatment and torture of migrants. The Turkish Human Rights Association reported that over a period, 101 refugees faced torture during arrest or in detention centers.

Human Rights Watch has also accused Turkey of unprecedented strictness in granting asylum to Afghans and several other countries, reporting that mass expulsions and forced returns of migrants continue.

However, Turkish police have denied these accusations, asserting that their treatment of migrants complies with national and international laws and that migrants’ human dignity is preserved. They also emphasized that arrested individuals are provided with food, water, and healthcare services.

Despite the many dangers along migration routes and repeated reports of abuse, dire economic conditions and human rights concerns in Afghanistan have driven many young people to leave the country and seek passage to Europe via Turkey.
