In Kabul, Ariana Radio and Television Network and the Afghanistan Football Federation agreed on Monday to organize, produce, and broadcast the fifth and sixth seasons of the Afghanistan Premier Futsal League. The fifth season will begin on December 7 (16th of Qaws) and continue until December 31 (10th of Jadi), with the second half starting on January 10 (20th of Jadi) and running until February 6, 2027 (17th of Dalw).

Ten teams will compete in the upcoming season, with eight team names already confirmed: Sadaqat FC, Nurzad FC, Omid FC, Zaytoon FC, Zahir Asad FC, Ettehad FC, Jawanane Mihan, and Pirozi Panjshir. The remaining two teams will be announced soon. Last season’s champion, Sadaqat FC, will once again compete to retain their title, while Diyer Sanay and Arya Forge teams were relegated to a lower division last season.

Fereid Ahmad Yousufzai, the technical deputy of Afghanistan’s Futsal Committee, stated that the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the previous season received positive attention both domestically and internationally. He added that this year VAR technology will be applied differently in light of new futsal rule changes. These new rules have already been implemented in Italy’s Serie A futsal and in the Dakar youth tournaments; the Afghanistan Premier Futsal League will be the third official competition to adopt them.

Yousufzai emphasized that the rule changes will significantly impact referees’ decisions and added that Tamim Hussaini, an Australian referee, is scheduled to arrive in Kabul on November 22 (1st of Qaws) to work alongside international referees Atiqullah Niaz and Khalikyar Peyman, the latter recently returning from the Malaysian academy.

Hamidullah Sharifi, director of Ariana Network’s channel and head of sports program production, stated that the network has always aimed to provide high-quality sports content for Afghan audiences and hopes that the upcoming season will feature improved production and television coverage quality.
