Sushant Sarin, an Indian strategic analyst, has called on the Indian government to reconsider its policy on Afghanistan and officially recognize the Taliban government. He proposed that India not only formally recognize the Taliban but also provide military assistance to enhance their defensive capabilities against Pakistan.<\/p>\n
In an interview with an Indian media outlet, Sarin emphasized that India should not allow international pressures to dictate its Afghanistan policy. Given Pakistan’s use of military force against Afghanistan, India should similarly offer military support to the Taliban.<\/p>\n
Sarin added that his proposal includes sending drone defense systems, drone technology, and long-range missile equipment so that the Taliban can adequately respond to threats from Pakistan.<\/p>\n
He also warned that for India to play a more constructive role internationally, it must accept the risk of engaging with the Taliban. This does not mean endorsing Taliban policies but rather recognizing the group’s de facto governance. According to Sarin, the Taliban are the current rulers of Afghanistan, and India should act based on its interests without waiting for other countries’ positions.<\/p>\n
Regarding the complex relationship between the Taliban and Pakistan, Sarin stated that the Taliban are no longer merely tools of Islamabad, as they now focus on their own interests and stand in opposition to Pakistan.
