Funded by the United Kingdom, this contract will support irrigation, horticulture, and livestock projects in the provinces of Samangan, Daikundi, Faryab, Takhar, Paktika, and Kunar.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, these projects will enable the irrigation of 12,000 hectares of farmland and create cash employment opportunities for approximately 14,000 people. The program aims to reduce poverty, improve household livelihoods, promote sustainable agricultural development, support farmers, and strengthen Afghanistan’s agricultural sector.

This initiative comes at a time when Afghanistan’s agricultural sector faces serious infrastructural challenges and a lack of attention from the Taliban administration. Questions remain about the actual impact of such projects on improving the general living conditions of people, especially in deprived provinces. While the Taliban administration considers this cooperation important for agricultural development, the effort must be viewed within comprehensive and sustainable programs that address the sector’s broader needs.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Agriculture signs a $34 million deal with AfghanAid to boost irrigation, horticulture, and livestock projects across six provinces.

[7,17

post-24994","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-important-news
["GET
