Kenyan police said a deadly crash occurred on Sunday, October 25, at about 7:45 a.m. in the Kanga area near the town of Mtito Andei on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, killing at least 24 people and injuring 24 others.<\/p>\n
The bus, which belonged to the “Power of the Word International” church in Mombasa, was carrying passengers returning home from western Kenya after attending the funeral of their pastor.<\/p>\n
Local officials, including Abdullah Khalif, the Makueni county commissioner, said the bus driver was attempting to overtake several other vehicles when it collided with a cargo truck carrying cement. Kenya’s National Transport and Safety Authority also said dangerous overtaking was the main cause of the crash.<\/p>\n
