The Taliban-run Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has announced that people who paid private companies to obtain work visas but never received them can file complaints with the ministry’s Labour Inspection and Guidance Department to get their money back.<\/p>\n
The ministry said the complaint-handling process will be pursued formally and with full cooperation in order to prevent financial abuse in the visa issuance market.<\/p>\n
Following the collapse of the former republic, especially since August 2021, rising unemployment and economic stagnation have increased demand for labour migration in Afghanistan, helping fuel a black market for visas and driving prices in some regional countries to more than $1,000.<\/p>\n
International Labour Organization figures show that employment in Afghanistan has fallen sharply, with about 450,000 fewer people employed in the fourth quarter of 2022 than before the Taliban returned to power. Employment among young people aged 15 to 24 has also declined by 25 percent compared with 2021.<\/p>\n
The World Bank has also reported that nearly one-quarter of Afghan youth aged 15 to 29 are unemployed, a situation that has intensified economic pressure on young people and pushed more of them toward labour migration.<\/p>\n
In these circumstances, the Taliban labour ministry’s warning to private companies and its call for citizens to file complaints over undelivered visas is an effort to regulate the market and prevent abuse. However, experts warn that as long as unemployment and economic stagnation continue, young people will remain vulnerable to visa-related scams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
