In Milan, military forces have been reinforced and deployed for increased patrols in the city centre. The mayor of Milan has asked shops to remain open, after some stores were targeted by looting last week.

The October 17 Movement group has called for protests at 1 p.m. GMT in the eight cities, while the anti-war group Axis of Anti-Imperialism has also planned a rally in Rome.

Following the unrest, the government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni issued a security decree that makes it easier to detain minors, criminalises participation in violent protests, and will fine parents of minors if they cause damage at demonstrations.

Italian police also said they had carried out dozens of search operations against suspects linked to looting and disturbances last week. As part of efforts to ease tensions, the government approved support measures for truck drivers and fishermen facing rising fuel prices. As a result of these measures, most road blockades, especially in the south of the country, which had disrupted transport and caused shortages of fuel and food, have ended.

Italy has tightened security in eight cities as protests over rising prices and budget cuts continue after violent unrest last week.

[17,6

post-24608","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-international
["GET
