The trip comes amid escalating tensions in the region and is aimed at expressing France’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia in the face of attacks by Yemeni militants.

The Elysee Palace said the visit is the final stop on Macron’s regional tour of Gulf states. He had previously visited the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain to advance France’s strategic ties. His flight to Saudi Arabia came from Qatar.

During the visit, the French president stressed that he had received commitments from Gulf countries to increase energy supplies, an issue of importance in the current sensitive climate.

The trip comes as France is facing widespread domestic protests. Student demonstrations, under the pretext of a shortage of education funding, began in mid-September and have led to violence and clashes in several cities. Over the past weekend, some government buildings were set on fire and shops were looted. In the wake of these events, more than 2,400 people have been arrested.

Macron visits Riyadh to show support for Saudi Arabia and secure energy supply commitments amid regional tensions.

[17,6

post-24484","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-international
["GET
