The programme, supported by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is designed to equip women with technical skills so they can generate income and support their families financially.

A significant number of participants in the initiative are women who have returned from neighbouring countries and are gaining the ability to create financial opportunities through carpet weaving. However, Afghan women and girls remain subject to severe restrictions on education, employment and social participation, and many of them continue to face numerous barriers to accessing job opportunities.

This highlights the continued lack of adequate structural and social support for Afghan women, even though efforts such as this training programme are being carried out in some provinces. Restrictions imposed by the Taliban authorities in various fields remain a major threat to the development and empowerment of women.

UNHCR says 70 women in Bamiyan are learning carpet weaving to gain skills, earn income and support their families.

[17,16,8

post-24476","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-secondary-headline","category-social-affairs
["GET
