The Dogharoun border crossing accounted for more than 70% of Iran’s total exports to Afghanistan in the first half of the current year. In addition to the large volume of exports, the crossing also handled 34% of imports into Razavi Khorasan province and 20% of transit cargo entering Iran from Afghanistan during the same period.<\/p>\n
According to the head of the Dogharoun border terminal, the main export goods include construction materials, steel products, food items, fruit and vegetables, as well as petroleum products, indicating Afghanistan’s continued demand for these goods.<\/p>\n
The Dogharoun terminal, located near the city of Taybad and beside the shared Iran-Afghanistan border, is known as one of the most important economic and transit routes between the two countries. Together with the Islam Qala crossing in Herat province, it is considered the main hub for bilateral trade and for supplying essential goods to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Despite the economic importance of this route, any security problem or weakness in infrastructure at the crossing has a direct impact on the lives of border residents and the activities of traders. In recent years, with the rise in trade volume and the Taliban administration in control, officials from Iran and Afghanistan have held numerous meetings to address customs problems, extend operating hours and improve digital infrastructure, in order to prevent long truck delays and increase trade security.<\/p>\n
