The figure represents an increase of nearly 100% in mineral exports compared with last year.

Mohammad Yousuf Amin, chief executive of the Herat Chamber of Commerce, said the sharp rise in exports includes marble, fluorite, chromite, travertine, as well as zinc and lead minerals. These mineral stones were exported to the United States, Turkey, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, China and Italy.

Despite the increase in exports, a significant portion of Herat’s mineral stones are still exported in raw form, something local industry bodies have criticised and are calling for an end to raw exports and a focus on domestic processing of these resources.

Wais Wardag, head of one of the mineral extraction and processing companies in Herat, said mineral stones should be handed over to people who have the capacity to process them and prevent their raw sale. According to him, the necessary facilities for mineral processing are available in Herat, and investment in bringing in new machinery should be increased so that products can be produced and exported in line with global standards.

In total, about 20 types of mineral stones are extracted from mines in Herat and other provinces, most of which are exported either in raw or processed form, while a smaller amount is used inside the country.

Herat’s mineral exports nearly doubled in the first half of the year, reaching more than $23 million in sales abroad.

[7,17

post-24140","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-important-news
["GET
