Similar cases were also recorded in Kabul and Badakhshan.

In one case, morality police officers arrested a 13-year-old girl for not complying with the hijab directive. The girl was held overnight and released the next day after her father went to the authorities.

UNAMA said that on 10 July, morality police officers in Herat city also arrested 10 women for not wearing a chador. The women remained in detention until family guardians and local representatives pledged that they would comply with the hijab directive in future.

Saeedul Islam Khyber, spokesman for the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, confirmed on 27 September the arrest of women and girls in Herat and Kabul over hijab and described non-compliance as a ‘very serious crime’. In another interview, he said a woman who, after becoming aware of the hijab directive, does not observe it is considered a criminal by the Taliban administration.

UNAMA’s report said some women had also been barred from entering health centres and markets because they did not have a male guardian with them. According to the report, on 8 August morality police officers in Parwan prevented two women from entering a health centre because they were not accompanied by a mahram. On 18 August, a woman in Helmand was also denied entry to a market for the same reason.

At the same time, Taliban institutions have called on women in official messages to stay at home and obey their husbands. In a sermon prepared by the Taliban’s Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs for Friday prayers on 7 August, women were told not to leave home without their husband’s permission.

UNAMA says Taliban morality police arbitrarily detained 443 people and recorded dozens of cases over hijab violations in Afghanistan.

[17,8

post-24032","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-social-affairs
["GET
