The Islamic Development Bank has urged countries in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan to strengthen economic resilience, reform vulnerable structures and attract private investment to support sustainable growth.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Al Jasser, president of the Islamic Development Bank, set out these priorities at a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors from the region with the head of the International Monetary Fund, held on the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF meetings in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.<\/p>\n
He described macroeconomic stability, addressing structural economic weaknesses, mobilising private capital and strengthening regional integration as four key pillars for tackling economic challenges.<\/p>\n
Al Jasser said countries should rebuild their domestic and external financial buffers to make themselves less vulnerable to economic shocks. He said investment in infrastructure, human capital and economic diversification is also essential for achieving sustainable growth.<\/p>\n
The president of the Islamic Development Bank stressed the role of private sector investment, the creation of stronger partnerships and the use of innovative financing methods in the development process. He also called for improved regional connectivity and the expansion of trade and investment ties to create value chains and sustainable economic opportunities.<\/p>\n
The Islamic Development Bank said it has so far approved a total of nearly $100 billion for member countries in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
