Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has warned that the continued activity of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other armed groups in Afghanistan will have serious consequences for the Taliban administration.

Speaking on Monday, Oct. 20, at the international conference “The Evolving Landscape of Terrorism in Pakistan,” Dar said Islamabad has repeatedly asked Taliban officials not to allow Afghan territory to become a base for attacks against neighbouring countries.

He claimed that despite numerous talks between the two sides, the Taliban administration has not fulfilled its commitments on counterterrorism, and the activity of armed groups in Afghanistan has posed a serious threat to Pakistan’s national security.

Pakistan’s foreign minister described the presence of TTP and other armed networks in Afghanistan as a direct threat to regional peace and urged the Taliban administration to stop providing these groups with weapons, shelter and logistical support.

Pakistani media reported that Dar also warned in his remarks about the Taliban administration’s inaction, saying the situation would have serious consequences for Kabul. The comments came as political and security tensions between Islamabad and the Taliban administration have risen in recent months.

The Taliban administration has so far not responded to these remarks, but has previously said it would not allow Afghan territory to be used against any other country. Taliban officials have also rejected Pakistan’s allegations that they are sheltering armed groups and accused Pakistani officials of blaming Afghanistan for their own domestic failures.
