US President Donald Trump has claimed that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a ceasefire in attacks on energy facilities and infrastructure, and that the truce will take effect “immediately.”

According to Al Jazeera, Trump did not provide further details on the mechanism for monitoring the ceasefire or how long it would last.

The US president had previously criticised Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries and called for them to stop. He also said he had agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin on supplying diesel to US and global markets.

Trump later accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of being unable to end the war and called for him to be replaced.

Following this pressure, Zelensky proposed a mutual halt to attacks on energy infrastructure. He said Kyiv was ready to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries, provided that Moscow also halted attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
