Following the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, a number of Afghan social media users have criticised Saudi Arabia\u2019s military and regional policies, focusing on the impact of the war in Yemen and Afghanistan\u2019s past experiences.<\/p>\n
According to Irav, some of the reactions centred on Saudi Arabia\u2019s role in developments in Afghanistan and what was described as its \u201cfinancial support for some armed groups.\u201d These users said such approaches could fuel further conflict and deepen the suffering of people across the region.<\/p>\n
Abduljalil Mihnpoor and Rahmat Safi, two Facebook users, criticised Saudi support for armed groups and extremist movements, writing that these policies have led to violence and insecurity rather than helping peace and stability. Zemari Ayubi also assessed Ansarallah\u2019s attacks on Saudi Arabia in the context of the consequences of the war in Yemen.<\/p>\n
The war in Yemen and its human toll were another major theme in these reactions. Some users, referring to the military intervention of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen since 2015, criticised civilian casualties, the destruction of infrastructure, and what they described as media indifference to the suffering of the Yemeni people.<\/p>\n
Alongside these points, some users described Riyadh\u2019s policies toward Yemen and Gaza as contradictory. In part of the reactions, Mirois Mansour raised the possibility that the Saudi ruling family may have had a role in planning the attack on Riyadh airport; a claim for which this report says no independent evidence has been presented to confirm it.<\/p>\n
Other users also accused Saudi Arabia of supporting armed groups in regional countries and following policies aligned with the interests of the United States and Israel.<\/p>\n
