Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson has rejected remarks by the Taliban administration’s foreign minister alleging that Islamabad has links to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K), and called on the Taliban administration to take responsibility for ensuring security in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Sajid Haider Khan said Pakistan wants friendly relations with Afghanistan, but stressed that addressing Islamabad’s security concerns is important for the durability of those ties. He added: “Pakistan clearly raised its concerns about terrorism originating from Afghan soil. While maintaining its principled stance, Pakistan stressed that terrorism emanating from Afghanistan poses a serious threat to neighbouring countries, especially Pakistan.”<\/p>\n
At the same time, Japanese media outlet Nikkei Asia reported that the continued clashes between the Taliban administration and Pakistan, as well as the failure of China’s mediation efforts to reduce tensions, have made the security situation more complicated. The outlet warned that the continuation of this situation could strengthen groups opposed to the Taliban administration and increase the risk of Afghanistan returning to civil war.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a number of political analysts have also raised critical views about the tensions. Roman Shirzad said: “Pakistan has no choice but to accept that the proxy networks of those who export terrorism to Afghanistan exist deep inside Pakistan, in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.” Fazlmanullah Mumtaz also said: “The mentality prevailing in Pakistan is not the mentality of diplomacy, not the mentality of construction, but the mentality of superiority and pride.”<\/p>\n
The Taliban administration had previously rejected Pakistan’s accusations about terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil and, in return, claimed that Pakistan had given refuge to ISIS and groups opposed to the Taliban administration in that country.<\/p>\n
