According to Russian customs statistics, bilateral trade in 2025 was worth about $326 million, while Afghan figures put the total at around $590 million. Even so, both sides stressed a significant rise in trade in 2025 compared with the previous year.

According to the report’s details, Russia mainly exports natural gas, petrol, diesel, wheat, flour, sunflower oil and chickpeas to Afghanistan. By contrast, Afghanistan’s exports to Russia are estimated at about $4 million and include raisins, dried apricots, pomegranates, grapes, apples, cherries, cotton, watermelons and some medicinal plants.

The report also says the proposed development of the Trans-Afghan railway could turn Afghanistan into a transit route between Central Asia and seaborne markets, while also increasing Russia’s access to the Afghan market. It adds that the project’s implementation depends on the decisions and execution capacity of the institutions involved.

Afghanistan and Russia reported a 150% rise in trade in early 2026 as they discussed energy, investment and transit links.

[7

post-23556","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business
["GET
