Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched a wave of missile and drone attacks on 10 regions of the country on Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning (16 Mizan), killing at least 32 people.

According to Zelensky, a Russian missile hit a five-storey residential building in the city of Pryluky, killing 22 people, including five children. He added that 54 others, including seven children, were injured in the same incident.

Ukrainian authorities said the search and rescue operation in Pryluky has ended. Based on the information provided, more than 500 emergency services personnel took part in the operation and 15 people were pulled from the rubble; among those rescued was a five-year-old child.

Zelensky also said 10 other people were killed in different parts of Ukraine, including two in Kyiv. At the same time, reports said a public transport station in Kramatorsk was also targeted this morning and 12 deaths were recorded, but the details of that attack have not yet been made clear.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia fired about 70 missiles and 130 drones in the attacks, of which 44 missiles and 117 drones were “destroyed or disrupted.” The force said the remaining munitions hit various targets, including residential and civilian areas.

Referring to the continued attacks, the Ukrainian president called for increased defensive aid from his country’s allies and specifically stressed the need for anti-ballistic systems, fighter jet munitions and interceptor systems.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has repeatedly spoken of a shortage of advanced air defence systems, and officials have said strengthening air defences is vital to reducing civilian casualties.
