Pakistan’s representative to the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly described Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory and said its final status should be determined on the basis of Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the people of the region. He also accused India of human rights violations and discrimination against religious minorities in Kashmir, and called for a peaceful resolution of the dispute through diplomacy.<\/p>\n
India’s representative rejected Pakistan’s claims in response, saying Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of Indian territory. He described Islamabad’s remarks as interference in India’s internal affairs.<\/p>\n
Diplomatic tensions between the two countries over Kashmir escalated after India’s government revoked Article 370 of its constitution in 2019, a provision that granted special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
