He says Afghanistan needs $100 billion for the energy sector and $1 trillion for mineral extraction.<\/p>\n<p>Private sector activists and representatives of the Women&#8217;s Chamber of Commerce also cite power shortages, transit and export restrictions, difficulties in obtaining visas, and traders&#8217; limited access to banking facilities as obstacles to the country&#8217;s economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>According to Iraf, Mohammad Asif Elyas, spokesperson for the Taliban administration&#8217;s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, said most domestic and foreign investment has gone into the energy and mining sectors, and that Iran, China, Qatar and Uzbekistan are among the leading foreign investors. Taliban officials say land allocation, customs exemptions for importing industrial machinery, and speeding up the issuance of business permits are among the factors behind the rise in the number of manufacturing factories from 3,000 to more than 6,000.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, new investment commitments worth $1.7 billion were registered last year.
