The Atlantic has reported that U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to a plan to ease economic sanctions on Russia in return for the release of a number of political prisoners, an initiative the publication says could anger his allies.<\/p>\n
The plan is still at an early stage and would see Moscow release a number of political prisoners, while Washington would reduce economic sanctions against Russia in response.<\/p>\n
According to The Atlantic, Trump\u2019s envoys are looking for ways to ease U.S. sanctions and resume trade ties with Moscow. Several months ago, his envoy for Eastern Europe floated the proposal as a way to break the deadlock in relations between Washington and Moscow.<\/p>\n
The report adds that the plan could pave the way for Russia\u2019s return to the global economy and broaden the scope of Trump\u2019s talks with the Kremlin beyond the war in Ukraine.
