New British regulations imposing further restrictions on trade, financial services and transport linked to Iran have come into force today.<\/p>\n
The sanctions target Iran\u2019s oil, natural gas, petrochemical, shipping and energy-related technology sectors, and also include gold and precious metals.<\/p>\n
According to the British government, the provision of loans and credit, investment and a number of banking relationships with individuals and entities linked to Iran will also face restrictions. The regulations give London the authority to limit the activities of certain vessels and related services; they also ban Iranian cargo aircraft from landing in Britain, except in exceptional cases.<\/p>\n
The new rules also expand controls on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme and on goods and technology with dual use. The British government had previously said the aim of these measures was to increase pressure on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme and on activities that London considers threatening.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
