Iran\u2019s foreign minister says Tehran is still waiting for an official US response to its seven-point proposal, despite recent remarks by Donald Trump. He said the plan had been sent to the American side through Qatari mediators.<\/p>\n
Seyed Abbas Araghchi told the state-run IRNA news agency on Monday: “Our proposal, which became known as the seven-point plan, was conveyed to the Americans through the Qatari intermediary. Despite the remarks made by the US president, I said we are waiting for an official US response through the intermediaries.”<\/p>\n
He also said he had met with one of the Qatari mediators and held talks on the matter. According to him, these mediators have put forward “ideas” and are expected to discuss them with the American side as well, so that Washington\u2019s final response can be passed on to Tehran.<\/p>\n
Araghchi added that the Iranian delegation had been tasked with explaining Tehran\u2019s conditions for reaching an agreement to the American side, several countries and the international community. He claimed the conditions set out by Iran are “completely fair and logical,” and said that if the US is seeking a peaceful solution, Tehran has put forward its proposal.<\/p>\n
According to reports, Iran had proposed a seven-day roadmap on 3 Mizan this year to end the war with the US, which also included a ceasefire. Al Jazeera also reported on 4 Mizan that under this plan, the US would need to carry out some of Tehran\u2019s conditions within seven days to pave the way for renewed ceasefire talks and the lifting of maritime restrictions.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a day after the proposal was raised, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials, that US President Donald Trump had rejected Iran\u2019s proposal for a “seven-day ceasefire.” The newspaper also wrote that Trump had told his aides he expected bombing of Iran to resume after the November midterm elections.<\/p>\n
According to Al Jazeera, if the roadmap is implemented, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened on the final day of the seven-day period, and talks on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme would begin immediately.
