Heavy, unusually severe rainfall in India\u2019s Uttar Pradesh state has left at least 62 people dead and 46 others injured, placing the densely populated state under an emergency situation. According to Indian media, flooding after three days of heavy rain has spread across dozens of districts.<\/p>\n
Official reports say more than 1,000 homes in different parts of Uttar Pradesh have been severely damaged or completely destroyed. The floods have also affected roads, bridges and local infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Local officials said schools have been closed in some areas, including the city of Lucknow, and rescue teams have been deployed to move residents from flooded areas to safe locations. At the same time, people have been warned to avoid unnecessary travel in flood-hit areas.<\/p>\n
India\u2019s meteorological authorities said the active rain system over the Bay of Bengal has weakened, but there is still a possibility of scattered rainfall continuing until Tuesday. Warnings have also been issued over rising water levels in the Ghaghra and Rapti rivers, increasing the risk of flash floods in low-lying areas.<\/p>\n
The crisis has not been limited to Uttar Pradesh. Widespread flooding has also been reported in Odisha, where officials say more than 75,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas.<\/p>\n
In Nepal, India\u2019s northern neighbour, heavy rains during the same period have also killed at least 21 people. Rescue and relief operations are continuing in affected areas, and officials have warned that the death toll could rise.<\/p>\n
