South African police say at least 27 people have been killed and 11 others injured in two mass shooting incidents in the country.<\/p>\n
According to police, in one of the incidents, which took place at a nightclub in western Johannesburg, 17 people were shot dead. Police said the gunmen first opened fire on people outside the venue and then entered the club and continued shooting at customers.<\/p>\n
Police said the attackers were armed with Kalashnikov rifles and handguns. The force said they searched some of the people before fleeing in two unidentified vehicles and also took their mobile phones. Police also said two vehicles were set on fire during the attack.<\/p>\n
In the second incident, which took place early Sunday in the Lawndale area on the outskirts of Cape Town, 10 people were shot dead by armed men and 11 others were wounded. Police said the gunmen entered a recreational centre at around 1:46 a.m. and opened fire on customers.<\/p>\n
Police said five people died at the scene and five others died after being taken to medical centres because of the severity of their injuries. The wounded are being treated.<\/p>\n
Johannesburg is South Africa’s largest city, while Cape Town is also among the country’s major cities. Police have so far released no further details about the motive behind the two attacks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
