Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, responding to the alignment of five opposition parties, described the alliance as an effort to form an alternative cabinet after the election and said only the Likud party could prevent it.<\/p>\n
According to Al Jazeera, citing Israeli media, Netanyahu wrote in a post on social media that Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar party, along with Avigdor Lieberman, Golan, Naftali Bennett and the Arab parties, would seek to form a left-wing cabinet after the election.<\/p>\n
He also stressed that \u201conly a big Likud\u201d would be able to stop this process.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Bezalel Smotrich, Netanyahu\u2019s finance minister, also criticised the rapprochement and called it a \u201cdangerous\u201d decision.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Israel\u2019s Channel 12 had reported that the leaders of what it called the \u201cchange bloc\u201d, at a meeting hosted by prominent opposition figure Yair Lapid in Tel Aviv, agreed to stop attacking one another.<\/p>\n
According to the report, the leaders of the five opposition parties at the meeting stressed the need to work together to oust Netanyahu, win more votes against him and form an alternative cabinet.<\/p>\n
