Local sources have reported that Taliban-run facilities in three provinces were targeted<\/p>\n
Local sources say Pakistani air and drone strikes in Kandahar, Paktia and Khost hit bases and weapons depots belonging to the Taliban administration, attacks that, contrary to the claims of Taliban officials, focused on military sites, according to residents and local sources.<\/p>\n
A local source in Kandahar told the newspaper Etilaat Roz that around 3:30 a.m. today, Thursday, a weapons depot in the Sarai Mullah Sahib area of the city’s 9th district was struck and destroyed. According to the source, the force of the explosion was so strong that it was felt across different parts of Kandahar city, and it is possible it was caused by the simultaneous detonation of munitions stored inside the depot.<\/p>\n
The source added that the site had been used for decades as a storage facility for weapons and military ammunition. Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, however, claimed that Pakistan bombed a desert area there and that the incident caused no casualties or damage.<\/p>\n
In Paktia, a local source said Pakistani fighter jets bombed the 203 Mansouri Corps centre of the Taliban administration in Gardez, the provincial capital. According to him, the sound of the explosions could be heard from a distance, and flames were seen rising from inside the military facility after the attack.<\/p>\n
The source also said Pakistani drones were flying over Gardez until around 8 a.m., and Taliban forces were firing at them from the ground.<\/p>\n
In Khost, too, the Taliban administration confirmed several attacks but denied any casualties or damage. Mostaghfir Gurbaz, spokesman for the Taliban governor in Khost, said attacks were carried out in the Golha camp in Gurbaz district, parts of the provincial capital and the districts of Ismailkhel and Mandozi, but he said there were no casualties.<\/p>\n
However, local sources told Etilaat Roz that the targets of the attacks were also facilities linked to the Taliban administration. According to one source, the Golha camp in Gurbaz district, where the Taliban administration has relocated migrants from Pakistan’s Waziristan, was hit, and a military centre belonging to the Taliban’s Ministry of Defence in the same district was also targeted.<\/p>\n
According to the same source, a Taliban military base in the Sahra Bagh area of central Khost was also struck. Taliban officials have so far not released details about the extent of possible damage from these attacks.<\/p>\n
A Pakistani information and broadcasting minister, Attaullah Tarar, said in a statement on X that the country’s army carried out 10 air and drone strikes in Afghanistan under Operation Ghazab al-Haq. He said the attacks were in response to drone strikes launched from Afghan soil the previous day.<\/p>\n
Kandahar, Khost and Paktia are among Afghanistan’s key provinces in the south and southeast, and some Taliban military installations and centres are located there.
