Pakistan has targeted 10 locations across Afghanistan with air and drone strikes in response to drone attacks a day earlier, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said.

He said the move was carried out under what he described as the country’s “sovereign right to self-defence.”

In a post on X on Thursday, Oct. 2, Tarar said the strikes were, according to him, “precise, calculated and proportionate” and only hit identified military targets. He said those targets were linked to attempts to attack Pakistan.

The Pakistani information minister described the drone attacks claimed by the Taliban administration yesterday as a clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also warned the Taliban administration that Islamabad “will not accept or tolerate” attacks launched from Afghan soil.

Meanwhile, media controlled by the Taliban administration reported that parts of Afghanistan’s Khost and Kandahar provinces were also hit by Pakistani air strikes early this morning. Mostaghfir Gurbaz, spokesman for the Taliban governor in Khost, said the strikes took place at around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday.

According to him, the Gulam camp in Gurbuz district, areas near the center of Khost city, and parts of Ismailkhil and Mandozai districts were targeted. These reports said a desert area in the ninth district of Kandahar city was also hit by an air strike.

The Taliban administration claimed that the strike on Kandahar caused “no” damage. Two days earlier, Pakistani fighter jets had also targeted locations in Paktia and Kunar provinces in air strikes, attacks that show border and security tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration remain ongoing.
