At a Contact Group meeting of ministers on Afghanistan under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), participants stressed the need to continue diplomatic efforts to support the Afghan people and advance the peace process. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n
Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al-Khulaifi, Qatar’s Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at the meeting that the difficult situation facing the people of Afghanistan requires broad diplomatic efforts, expanded cooperation and full implementation of OIC resolutions on Afghanistan. He said member states should, with greater coordination, support constructive dialogue and continue humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.<\/p>\n
Al-Khulaifi said Qatar has supported peaceful solutions based on dialogue and preventive diplomacy since the start of the Doha process for peace in Afghanistan in 2013. According to him, Qatar has hosted several rounds of talks between Afghan sides in recent years.<\/p>\n
The Qatari official added that his country continues to host the Doha process on Afghanistan under UN leadership and held meetings of special envoys on Afghanistan in Doha in May 2023 and in February and July 2024. He also referred to the third meeting of the Counter-Narcotics Working Group and the second meeting of the Private Sector Working Group in June and July.<\/p>\n
Al-Khulaifi said Qatar will continue its humanitarian and development activities in Afghanistan alongside diplomatic efforts. According to him, through the Qatar Fund for Development, Qatar Charity, Education Above All Foundation and the Qatar Red Crescent, various projects have been implemented in Afghanistan, with education and employment opportunities for women, girls and young people among the priorities.<\/p>\n
He said in conclusion that Qatar is ready to work within the framework of the OIC with other member states to address Afghanistan’s urgent humanitarian needs and strengthen constructive engagement between the Taliban administration and the international community. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation is one of the main regional and international bodies that, in recent years, alongside the United Nations, has held meetings and consultations on Afghanistan’s political and humanitarian situation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
