The Taliban administration has sent a delegation to Afghanistan’s northern provinces to assess the security situation after reports of increased activity and attacks by opposition groups in parts of the country.<\/p>\n
The Taliban governor’s office in Balkh said the delegation, drawn from the Taliban’s ministries of defence and interior, travelled to northern Afghanistan and met officials in the provinces of Balkh, Samangan, Sar-e-Pol, Baghlan and Bamiyan.<\/p>\n
According to the Taliban governor’s office in Balkh, the meeting was held on Tuesday with the participation of governors, police chiefs, intelligence officials and commanders of Taliban corps in the northern provinces. The administration also claimed the delegation had been sent to the north on the orders of Hibatullah Akhundzada and as a representative of the “Central Security and Clearance Commission.”<\/p>\n
According to the information released, the meeting reviewed the security situation in the northern provinces, especially remote and mountainous districts, the way people are treated, the provision of services and the level of coordination among local Taliban institutions.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Yousuf Wafa, the Taliban governor in Balkh, called at the meeting for an increase in the number of Taliban security forces in remote and mountainous districts and asked the delegation from Kabul to ensure the necessary equipment for these forces is also provided on time.<\/p>\n
He also stressed the need for more meetings between Taliban officials, clerics and residents in the districts, saying such meetings could help reassure people about the security situation.<\/p>\n
The provinces of Balkh, Samangan, Sar-e-Pol, Baghlan and Bamiyan are located in northern and north-central Afghanistan, and a number of districts in these provinces are considered sensitive areas from a security and administrative access perspective because of their mountainous terrain and geographic spread.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
