Reuters-reported data shows that Russia exported about 2.5 million tonnes of diesel to Central Asian countries and Afghanistan in the first eight months of this year. The figure marks a slight decline from the same period in 2025, when exports were reported at about 2.6 million tonnes.<\/p>\n
On a monthly basis, Russian diesel exports rose sharply in August. Moscow sent more than 370,000 tonnes of diesel to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Tajikistan in the month, more than double the volume in July.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Mongolia was the largest export destination for Russia in this period, receiving nearly 215,000 tonnes. The report did not provide separate details on Afghanistan’s share during this time.<\/p>\n
The increase came as Russia’s government extended its diesel export ban through the end of September. Reuters said the restriction was imposed to curb domestic fuel prices and manage inventories, although agreed exemptions were made for some Central Asian countries and Mongolia.<\/p>\n
Energy market analysts say higher output at Russian refineries and a build-up of domestic inventories have pushed the country’s exporters toward regional markets. On this basis, Central Asia remains one of the main routes for Russian diesel exports despite official restrictions.<\/p>\n
