A US diplomat told Al Hadath that President Donald Trump has instructed the country\u2019s military and security institutions to ensure the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq is carried out with complete care, so that the chaotic pullout from Afghanistan is not repeated.<\/p>\n
According to the official, Washington has decided to remove all of its equipment and weapons from Iraq as well, leaving no arms in the country. He added that this process is being carried out alongside monitoring the activities of Iran-aligned forces in Iraq \u2014 groups the United States sees as a potential threat to its interests or personnel in the region.<\/p>\n
The statement comes as, according to the source, since the start of the war by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran on 28 February, US bases in the region have been targeted several times by rocket and drone attacks.<\/p>\n
The United States, which entered Iraq with a military invasion in 2003, is scheduled under the announced plan to complete the full withdrawal of its forces by 30 September, ending its 23-year presence in the country. Last year, most US troops were pulled out of bases in various parts of Iraq, but the country\u2019s military presence in the Kurdistan Region was maintained.<\/p>\n
Trump has repeatedly criticised the way US forces were withdrawn from Afghanistan during Joe Biden\u2019s presidency, calling it an example of poor crisis management. He also said the United States should not have abandoned Bagram Air Base and should not have allowed weapons to remain in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
