Under the plan, and including value-added tax, about 17 cents will be shaved off the tax burden on each litre of fuel.

The decision was taken after an agreement between Germany’s federal government and the country’s states. According to the details announced, the energy tax on each litre of petrol and diesel will be reduced by 14 cents, and when the effect of value-added tax is taken into account, the total cut will amount to about 17 cents per litre.

The German government said the scheme could reduce costs for citizens and businesses by about 2.5 billion euros. The move comes as rising energy prices and a surge in fuel costs have put heavy pressure on households and sectors of the economy.

According to Reuters, German officials took the decision in response to fuel prices reaching record levels. The report said developments and intensifying conflict in the Middle East have been among the factors adding pressure to energy markets.

The German government also plans to discuss a temporary cap on fuel prices with oil companies. Under this plan, the mechanism is expected to be in place by January 1, 2027 at the latest.

Germany is Europe’s largest economy, and changes in its energy policy usually have an impact on regional markets as well. Energy tax and value-added tax are among the main components of the final fuel price in the country.

Germany will temporarily cut fuel taxes until the end of 2026 to ease pressure from rising petrol and diesel prices.

[7,17

post-22140","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-important-news
["GET
