CNN has reported that the US military came close in recent months to carrying out a military operation against a Chinese vessel after receiving false information generated with the help of artificial intelligence \u2014 an incident that could have led to a direct confrontation with China.<\/p>\n
According to the report, US forces had prepared to confront the vessel and board it, while military aircraft were also due to fly overhead. But before the operation was carried out, the information received was reviewed again and it was found that the ship’s cargo had been misidentified.<\/p>\n
CNN, citing informed sources, said that an analyst at US Special Operations Command had used artificial intelligence to prepare the assessment. The network said the error could have paved the way for the start of a new military crisis.<\/p>\n
The report said the chatbot used had mixed open-source data with classified information and, as a result, reached an incorrect conclusion about the nature of the cargo on board the ship.<\/p>\n
