The Afghan Red Crescent Society says it needs sustained, long-term international support to continue and expand its humanitarian and health services in Afghanistan. The appeal was made at a diplomatic meeting attended by representatives from a number of countries, humanitarian organizations and working partners.<\/p>\n
The Afghan Red Crescent press office said today that the meeting was held to review Afghanistan’s humanitarian situation and expand international cooperation in delivering humanitarian and health services. According to the organisation, Sheikh-ul-Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, the secretary-general of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, provided information on the country’s humanitarian situation and the group’s activities.<\/p>\n
He said the Afghan Red Crescent responds to those in need during natural disasters and humanitarian crises through emergency response, health services and assistance to affected families. He added that continuing these services would be difficult without greater support from donors and international organisations.<\/p>\n
The meeting also included information on the Afghan Red Crescent Society’s specialised heart hospital, which treats patients with heart defects, as well as disaster preparedness and efforts to strengthen community resilience against risks linked to climate change. Officials of the organisation stressed the need to expand cooperation in these areas.<\/p>\n
The deputy of the Afghan Red Crescent Society also called on embassies, humanitarian organisations and charities to increase their cooperation in support of people in need. The president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Kabul also emphasised strengthening the organisation’s humanitarian and operational capacities, saying foreign partners could step up their support.<\/p>\n
The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Afghanistan also assured continued cooperation with the Afghan Red Crescent Society. The meeting also discussed Afghanistan’s humanitarian needs, the situation of returning migrants, vulnerable people, health services and areas of future cooperation.<\/p>\n
Representatives of Qatar, Iran, China, Turkey, Indonesia and Japan, along with the Red Crescent societies of Qatar and Turkey, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the British Red Cross, the Danish Red Cross and the Norwegian Red Cross, and several international organisations attended the meeting.
