He added that the goals set for the process have not yet been achieved.

According to Mujahid, one of the main pillars of the Doha process was to create conditions for cooperation with Afghanistan in the social and economic sectors; however, very little progress has been made in these areas and the Taliban administration’s expectations have not been met.

The Doha process began about three years ago at the initiative of the UN secretary-general to create a coherent framework for the international community’s engagement with Afghanistan. The stated aim of the process was to advance a coordinated approach to Afghanistan’s issues and to establish structured engagement with Taliban officials.

The first meeting under the process was held in April 2023, followed by meetings in February that year and in July 2024. At the third Doha meeting, Taliban officials took part for the first time in direct talks with special representatives from nearly 30 countries and international institutions.

The United Nations had previously stressed that this engagement does not amount to recognition of the Taliban administration or confer legitimacy on it. The body also said issues such as the rights of women and girls and Afghanistan’s international commitments remain on the agenda of the process.

The Taliban says the Doha process has failed to meet Afghanistan’s demands and has delivered little progress on social and economic cooperation.

[17,4

post-22002","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics
["GET
