The UN secretary-general said in a new report to the Security Council that human rights violations and the absence of an inclusive system are among the main factors threatening stability in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
The report also described the growing and systematic restrictions on women and girls, as well as the centralised and exclusive nature of Afghanistan\u2019s political system, as major concerns \u2014 issues that have repeatedly drawn criticism from international bodies in recent years.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, the United Nations also warned that rising economic pressures, reduced capacity to provide basic services, an increase in the return of migrants and the continued activity of terrorist groups are other factors that could further undermine stability in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
The report comes as Afghanistan continues to face broad political, economic and humanitarian challenges, with concerns persisting over the impact of this situation on people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n
The UN has previously expressed concern in separate reports and statements about restrictions on women and girls, the economic crisis and the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
