Diplomatic sources have said the United Nations Security Council will meet on Tuesday to discuss developments in Yemen’s Bab al-Mandab Strait and Red Sea coast.<\/p>\n
According to the sources, the meeting will be held after Yemeni forces last week took control of Yemen’s Red Sea coast and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.<\/p>\n
Agence France-Presse reported that France, which holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council this month, requested the meeting. It is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time in New York, or 7 p.m. GMT.<\/p>\n
The Bab al-Mandab Strait is one of the world’s vital shipping routes and connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, a passage that plays a key role in trade links between Europe and Asia.
