Officials from the Taliban-run Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in Nangarhar said that 2,153 jeribs of land were brought under pine nut cultivation this year across the 10 districts. They said the harvest from these lands is expected to reach 1,115 metric tonnes this year.

The department officials said that alongside the expansion of pine nut cultivation, 2,780 farmers have also received training in areas related to planting, irrigation, disease control and harvest collection. According to them, these programmes were implemented with the aim of improving crop quality and increasing production.

The Taliban administration in Nangarhar attributes the rise in pine nut yields to awareness campaigns on proper harvesting, the distribution of modern equipment and favourable weather conditions. The department also says that promoting standard harvest collection methods and protecting natural forests have played a role in this process.

Despite this, some pine nut traders in Nangarhar have expressed concern over a drop in the product’s price in domestic markets. According to them, last year one seer of pine nuts sold for about 80,000 afghanis, but this year the price has fallen to between 30,000 and 35,000 afghanis.

According to figures from the Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Afghanistan’s pine nut exports in 2025 reached more than $15 million and 1,031 tonnes, showing a 25% increase from the previous year. The product is exported to China, India, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Germany and the United States.

Based on figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Nangarhar’s natural pine nut forests cover an area of 11,910 hectares, much of it located in the province’s mountainous and forested areas. Pine nuts are considered one of Afghanistan’s key export products and are referred to as “black gold” in the country’s commercial literature.

Taliban officials say pine nut cultivation has expanded in Nangarhar, with higher output and rising exports in 2025.

[7

post-21422","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business
["GET
